At sixteen, Anne is grown up…almost. Her gray eyes shine like evening stars, but her red hair is still as peppery as her temper. In the years since she arrived at Green Gables as a freckle-faced orphan, she has earned the love of the people of Avonlea and a reputation for getting into scrapes. But when Anne begins her job as the new schoolteacher, the real test of her character begins. Along with teaching the three Rs, she is learning how complicated life can be when she meddles in someone else’s romance, finds two new orphans at Green Gables, and wonders about the strange behaviour of the very handsome Gilbert Blythe. As Anne enters womanhood, her adventures touch the heart and the funny bone.
Anne of Avonlea is the second book in the series . Anne takes the position of Avonlea school teacher and starts her new jurney .
I had high expectations of this and it didn’t disappoint me . There are many things i didn’t like in this book . One of them is Davey . He is reckless and abusive in every way . Everytime he did something wrong he always ended up in getting forgiveness . On the other hand , Dora ( Davy’s twin sister) , who is the most loveable and kindest girl is judged because of her good nature .
“Well, we all make mistakes, dear, so just put it behind you. We should regret our mistakes and learn from them, but never carry them forward into the future with us.”
I know the times were different when the book was writter . I love their open minded culture except the judgements . The women were free to take decisions on their marriages .
Anne met new people in this book . Davey , Dora , Paul Irving , Miss Lavender and we heared stories about Hester grey , Miss Lavender’s tragic love story with Stephen Irving ( Paul’s father ) .
“One can’t get over the habit of being a little girl all at once.”
I loved the little romance blossomed between Anne and Gilbert . It’s a long run for both of them but i am glad they became friends .
The story is great and very interesting till the end . I am so much in love with Anne and her imaginations . Anne is my all time favurite literary heroine and she never disappointes in the books .
